New 12‑Part Television Series inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge to be filmed in Ottery St Mary

A New 12‑Part Television Series inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge will be filmed in Ottery St Mary.

The series explores the life, imagination, and turbulent genius of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, with principal photography set to take place in the poet’s birthplace, Ottery St Mary, later this year.

Blending elements of drama, biography, and the vivid inner landscapes that shaped Coleridge’s most celebrated works, the series will trace his birth, family and early years in Devon, his formative relationships, his creative breakthroughs, and the personal struggles that shadowed his brilliance.

The production aims to bring Coleridge’s early world to life with authenticity, emotional depth, and a strong sense of place—rooted in the very location that shaped him.

Producer Susanne Whalley describe the project as:

'A sweeping, character‑driven portrait of a mind that helped define English Romanticism, with Ottery St Mary’s historic streets, riverbanks, and surrounding countryside serving as the visual heart of the series'.

The production team is inviting residents of Ottery St Mary and the wider Devon community to take part in the project. Opportunities are widespread  — whether on screen or behind the scenes.
