Two weeks to go till Sidmouth Folk Week
With less than two weeks to go, the Full Programme and Children’s Festival Programme for Sidmouth FolkWeek (29th July – 5th Aug) have now arrived through many people’s letterboxes as well as being available to download at www.sidmouthfolkweek.co.uk
With around 700 events, it’s time to get planning!
Many festival goers will arrive early for the pre-festival special events, kicking off on 28th July at 2.30pm with people’s poet and popular entertainer, Pam Ayres. Or head down for the weekend, to catch the mighty Scottish fiddler and Good Tradition Award winner, John McCusker and his band, celebrating his 25 year career to date on the first Friday night. Or the world-renowned box-playing favourite Sharon Shannon and her band, with her exquisite and accessible take on Irish traditions, on Saturday night.
If it’s only possible to make it down for one evening, the choice of unmissable events is vast. One of our picks of the week is undoubtedly former Bellowhead frontman Jon Boden’s early solo outing on Thursday night.
Undoubtedly many will be in the mood for dancing! In which case, people can’t go far wrong with a Big Gig ticket for the Bulverton boogie nights – covering early music sessions from 7pm, followed by a glittering array of roots dance parties with Shooglenifty, Manran, Mad Dog Mcrea, Monster Ceilidh Band, Blackbeard’s Tea Party, Jamie Smith’s Mabon and more, then a Late Night Extra ceilidh leading to an acoustic after party atmosphere in Betsy’s Lounge into the early hours.
FolkWeek hope that festival goers can join us for the whole week, but with a flexible range of ticket options available at www.sidmouthfolkweek.co.uk, people can customise their festival experience to work best for them – the week, the weekend, the day or an individual event.
Here is a daily overview of just some of the guests appearing throughout the week, but check the programme for a full breakdown of what and who’s on when. Some of these artists and many more are with us all week or for a few days.
